I love this site! I have had good experiences with everyone I’ve traded but one. On April 29th I made two trades with someone and still have not received my items (nor do I expect to receive them). While I accept this as a risk you take in this kind of thing, I wondered if there is anything that could be done on the admin end? I have emailed her, but she doesn’t answer. : ( I will end up giving her bad karma, but I hate to do that before exhausting all other options. Either way, thanks so much for your hard work. This community being built here is a really nice one. Grace |

I wish there was something we could do to help, but it turns out that when you run a free site where no payment information is collected, you end up having very little enforcement power in terms of capital. The most we can do is PM/email them or remove them. Messaging them might get their attention on the off-chance that they truly have forgotten, have e-mail notifications turned off, and not been on the site for a while. Removing definitely won’t get your stuff back, and it’ll effectively erase any “karmic” trace of their history if they create a new account. If there IS a way for us to protect everyone here, believe me, we’d jump on it in 2.718 seconds. Miami, FL |

I have been giving this a lot of thought and I want to see how the Rehash community feels about going after Swaplifters. I have done a little research and these individuals have committed a crime. It’s Small Claims, but it is considered “Breach of Contract”. The emails and trade confirmations they submit are binding agreements. Normally, it’s not worth going after someone for a couple items. But when a swaplifter has burned 5-6 people, it’s suddenly worth it. I have the legal resources at my disposal. Post your feedback here or email me if you’re interested in being included. We have their names and addresses, that is all I need to complete step 1: a formal demand letter from an attorney. (Yeah, don’t mess with me you scammers!) Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |

jenny, how cool are you for taking the time to research this. i have only been burned by 1 person, and i see that this person has also done the same thing to a few other people. i selected the option to flag the member, but i haven’t seen her profile removed or anything posted. i’m wondering – if there’s something admin can do – to notify other traders, putting some kind of notification on their profile that says “this member has been flagged and is currently under investigation” or “this member hasn’t shipped on numerous trades and is not responding to emails” or something to that affect. i really don’t what the answer is, but hate that there are dishonest and rude people ruining the “good faith” that we all have in each other when swapping. maybe if there was a forum where we could post info about a particular swaplifter, it could give other the opportunity to post their poor experiences – - and possibly motivate the swaplifter to take some action or respond. what does everyone else think?? on a positive note, happy 4th :) |

Oooo, I like Erin’s idea. Just letting people know when a user has been flagged. I think it should only show up after two or more flags though, due to accidental clicking. Interlachen, Florida |

Jenny, I would like to be included in that, because you and I have been burned by the same person. Remember how you told me to try and mssg her and try to get a reply/explanation? Well, I did, like three times and still nothing and I KNOW she’s read my mssgs because I checked my “Sent” box. So what would happem? Obviously I’d have to sign some papers right,? Stating what happened is true… and then your “people” just send her a formal letter?
One of the messages I sent her, one of the last ones, I told her “listen, if you’re having problems, you don’t have money to ship everyone’s packages, family trouble, etc- we (or at least I) completely understand. I am not anal about shippinh time and when it gets here, just let me know what IS going on, I put trust in you when we made this contract to act of your end and you haven’t” blah blah blah… but I also told her if I did not hear from her that I would relist/trade/sell the item involved in the trade with her, because But Jenny, behind you 100%. Let me knw the details. This is not right and she cannot get away with doing this. Plus people like this discourage the newbies from trading on here and is makes us good rehasher who stick to our words begin loosing faith in trust ibn everyone else they are trading with. With some trades I;m tthinking, “Wow it’s been a week and no package yet- did I get ripped off again??!!!”

Okay, well I will get started on Monday with our first swaplifter. I will email the Rehashers who I can identify as being fellow victims of this girl. FYI: I believe that Rehash leaves profiles up for swaplifters so that the community can see them. We can warn off others with our feedback and comments. Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |

I really don’t have much to add, except I’m so glad to finally see this thread! There are some good ideas/suggestions on what we could/should do. Why should we allow these scammers to rip off person after person. Luckily, I have not been burned thus far, but I hate to see others get screwed over. I admit, sometimes it can get you paranoid though…wondering if someone is going to rip you off. I wouldn’t mind having some screen_names/names of people who’ve done this (you can message it, if you want), just so I don’t fall into their trap and end up yet another person who fell victim. |

I haven’t mentioned anything because I normally don’t care. (Trying to get rid of stuff anyways I s’pose) but here are the people who have not and probably will not send my items: Kim, Steve, Katy, and Melody. Peoria, AZ |
