Once upon a time, I was an award winning first chair flutist. After high school, I concentrated on studies and continued to play for pleasure only. I even saved up my spare change (which is hard to do as a starving college student) and bought myself my dream flute – a Gemeinhardt 33SB. The tonality of this caliber of flute made the notes sound other world… but sadly, my roommates ex-boyfriend robbed us one day. It’s so sad because he probably just went to the local pawn shop and sold my $3000 flute for a few C-notes. And although I had the registration numbers and filed police reports, we never found my beloved flute. The insurance covered about half of the value of the flute, but I never bought another one. In fact, I haven’t played in 10 years. But lately, I’ve felt the pull to play Vivaldi again…
