I’m terrified of giving blood, but I’d like to donate at least once. Anyone who donates blood with tips on how to relax?

is it the needle you are afraid of? bring your music/headphones and have a cup of decaf tea first then just zone out and close your eyes. you can also make sure that you get a well experienced tech.

I’m scared of the needle, of losing a lot of blood (I get lightheaded and dizzy and the room goes dark), just anxious about the whole experience. But yes, I especially hate the needle and the mental imagery of it piercing my skin and entering my vein.

I’m sure that’s hard to get past! For the dizziness I think they welcome you to stay and rest a while and probably have a snack. I’d definitely suggest having someone drive you though! I am interested in donating plasma but it takes around 3hrs.

I do Platelet Donation it’s a two hour process they take the blood out of one arm run it through a Centrifuge to spin out what they want and then pump what’s left back into the other arm. Just don’t look at it when they put it in and don’t watch it when the bag is filling wait afterwards and enjoy your cookies and juice. The first time is the hardest after that it gets easier and you can also be done quicker. I’ve donated about 2+ gallons.

Vitamins and coffee! plus I’m a type “a” personality so I usually just go and go until I crash anyway:/ probably not much help!! On a realistic note I would say instill a good schedule for you both that includes uninterupted quiet or relaxing time! Don’t schedule things during those times so she will learn to anticipate them and you can rely on them. Even if you just snuggle together and close your eyes while she eats. As for us, we are blessed with two amazing healthy kids; we are not having more :)

ooh, not a sleeper huh? my daughter wasn’t/isn’t a sleeper either. you’ll learn to get by on minimal sleep, lol! chole’s 3 and i still barely get to sleep through the night, and half the time she is in the bed or room with me/us!
